My Story
Every stroke survivor has a unique story to tell. This is mine…
Hi there, my name is Danny. I am 46 years old, a husband, a father of twins and in 2019/ 20, I survived multiple strokes due to a rare adrenal gland tumour (Pheochromocytoma).
I required 2 days of surgery and remained in ICU for 10 days. I am still adapting to my “new normal”, and like anyone after a life changing event, I have found recovery challenging.
At the heart of my recovery journey have been my family & friends and without their support I believe I would not be where I am now! Heavily linked in to my recovery is my love for the outdoors, and in particular, my passion for surfing and the ocean.
Promote Life After Stroke
To promote life after stroke I am raising funds to deliver beach sessions to other survivors and their loved ones here in Cornwall.
These sessions will focus on both getting in the sea safely and enjoying the beach environment with family and friends. They will be managed by a new community project partnering with an existing outdoor pursuits provider.
In May 2022 I undertook my own physical challenge, and other friends are supporting by fundraising with their own challenges to contribute to the beach sessions.
My Coastal Challenge
Over the bank holiday weekend in May 2022 I ran and walked 65 miles over 3x consecutive days, along the South West Coast Path from Newquay to Sennen Cove. The challenge raised over £3,300!
